01 / Fit & deliverables
Best fitDetailed buildings, industrial spaces and combined geometry + visual capture.Medium-to-large sites and projects requiring configurable sensor range.Frequent room-to-room work and small-to-medium building capture.Virtual tours, creative production and photorealistic visual archives.
Main advantageBuilt-in survey-grade RTK and a display on the scanner.Choose the 32/300 version when extra sensor range matters.A compact way to capture engineering geometry and visual scenes.Focus on walkthroughs, property showcases and visual storytelling.
What to considerA heavier handheld kit; maximum range is 120 m.RTK is a separate module; check which package includes it.For large, complex outdoor sites, compare the Lixel L models.Does not export engineering laser point clouds.

Read the conditions behind the numbers.

¹ Relative accuracy describes internal geometry; absolute accuracy describes alignment to a coordinate system. Different test methods are not an identical field-performance comparison.

  • L3: 5 mm is a post-processed result at 1σ in a 500 m² test environment. The 2 cm absolute figure requires favorable open-sky GNSS conditions.
  • L2 Pro: 1 cm relative RMSE applies to points less than 100 m apart. The 3 cm absolute figure depends on RTK / control and interruption distances under 100 m.
  • K2: 1 cm relative RMSE is a laboratory point-to-point test within 10 m. Absolute accuracy is a different metric and depends on GNSS conditions.
  • PortalCam: its LiDAR supports scene capture. A high sensor point rate does not turn its 3DGS output into an engineering point-cloud deliverable.

² Weight bases differ between devices. Batteries, poles, phones and RTK attachments can change carried weight. Runtime and usable range vary with conditions.

How XGRIDS defines accuracy

MAKE THE RIGHT TRADE-OFF

What changes your choice?

01

Integrated capture or more reach?

Choose L3 when on-device monitoring and integrated RTK simplify the field workflow. Choose L2 Pro 32/300 when the project calls for its longer sensor range. A newer model is not automatically the right model for every site.

02

Channels and range solve different problems.

For L3 and L2 Pro, 16 versus 32 channels changes the stated point rate from 320K to 640K points per second. It does not make a 120 m unit into a 300 m unit. Match density and reach to the surfaces you need to capture.

03

Do you need a model to view or geometry to use?

A photorealistic walkthrough helps people understand a place. Design and measurement workflows need suitable geometry and quality checks. Choose the output first so you do not buy a visual-only workflow for an engineering requirement.

FROM CAPTURE TO A USEFUL RESULT

Two outputs. Two processing paths.

Document the geometry

Document the geometry

L3 / L2 Pro / K2 → LixelStudio → point cloud or mesh

Use geometry for existing-condition documentation and downstream design workflows. Define the coordinate system, check points and required file format with the receiving team.

Bring the space to life

Bring the space to life

PortalCam or Lixel → LCC Studio → 3DGS scene

Create an immersive visual experience for presentation, virtual tours or creative work. A Gaussian PLY is different from an engineering point-cloud PLY.

Illustrative workflow images; results depend on the site, capture and processing.

CHECK THE WHOLE WORKFLOW

Build a package that fits the job.

01

Hardware & positioning

Select the scanner and channel/range configuration. Check whether RTK hardware, batteries and charging equipment are included in that exact package.

02

Software & license

Separate the hardware package name from the software edition. Confirm included activations, Premium features and annual or perpetual terms before adding a license.

03

Field accessories

Choose compatible batteries, poles or mounts for the route. Compare included quantities first to avoid buying the same item twice.

Questions before you choose

Does 5 mm mean every dimension will be accurate to 5 mm?

No. L3's published 5 mm figure describes a particular post-processed relative-accuracy test. Project scale, geometry, control and processing affect the result. Set acceptance criteria and check them against independent references.

Does 300 m mean I can capture every surface from 300 m away?

No. It is the maximum sensor range for the L2 Pro 32/300 configuration. Reflectivity, obstructions, scan density and capture movement affect usable coverage.

Is LCC Studio Premium included in every Premium hardware package?

Do not infer the software license from the hardware package name. Review the selected product configuration and listed entitlements. Add paid software only when the workflow needs it and it is not already supplied.

Can I book a capture project before buying a scanner?

Yes. Tell DRT about the site, intended deliverables and target dates to discuss a scoped capture service or equipment workflow.
